Objectives

The Objectives of PR-NETS are to:

• Accelerate advanced networking at UPR-RP through targeted investment in networking equipment.
• Implement a Science DMZ consisting of firewall-less interconnection among seven PoAs.
• Provide underrepresented undergraduate and graduate science students access to large databases and collaborative research through networking and multicast videoconferences.
• Implement a network monitoring system for network traffic, security, and device availability.  
• Build a network infrastructure that will permit additional PoAs and connection to other campuses to the Science DMZ in the future to strengthen science research collaborations.
• Promote data intensive research using PR-NETS as a model for other campuses.
