Professors José R. Ortiz-Ubarri and Rafael Arce-Nazario along with students Edwin Ramos and Luis Albertorio attended the 2014 Annual Computer Security Applications Conference to participate in security workshops.  The conference took place in New Orleans Louisiana on December 8 - 12.  Professor José Ortiz-Ubarri attended the workshop Understanding and Contrasting Android Malware at Runtime given by Dr Giovanni Russello from University of Auckland, Rafael Arce-Nazario attended the Iron-Clad Software Development : How To Build Secure Web Applications given by Mr. Jim Manico, and both professors attended the workshop Advanced Digital Forensics by Dr. Vrizlynn Thing from the Institute for Infocomm Research at Singapore.  The goals of the professors attending those workshops are to strengthen the course materials that will be developed as part of the ATACKPR project and possibly develop research projects in those areas.

Luis Albertorio and Edwin Ramos, both recipients of the Scholarship for Cybersecurity Excellence participated of the hands-on Tracer FIRE training.  The Tracer FIRE (Forensic and Incident Response Exercise) is a program developed by Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories to educate and train cyber security incident responders (CSIRs) and analysts in critical skill areas, and to improve collaboration and teamwork among staff members. Under this program, several hundred CSIRs from the Department of Energy, other U.S. government agencies, and critical infrastructure organizations have been trained.  The students loved the training and encourage the participation of other fellows to participate in future years.  Edwin and Luis will pass on their acquired knowledge to other students through presentations and lab sessions during the Cybersecurity-SIG meetings held at the CS department every Friday.
