Welcome
The Department of Computer Science at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus offers a Bachelor in Science degree in Computer Science. The Computer Science program has been formally established in August of 1994, but it was not until December of 2002 that the department became an independent entity. Currently our department is composed of eight faculty members and serves about hundred undergraduate students.
Mission
A Department of Computer Science with emphasis on research and advanced studies in the field. This program trains professionals in Computer Science and at the same time it prepares students to pursue graduate studies. Concurrently, the program supports development of research projects in all areas of Computer Science (ex. programming, theory of computing, computer architecture, and so on.) and fosters interdisciplinary research. This philosophy with triple purpose (i.e., academic, research and professional) is in tune with the current needs of Puerto Rico and the world.
Educational Objectives

Graduates of our program will have sound theoretical and practical foundations in Computer Science that will allow them to secure employment, or pursue graduate studies in an area related to Computer Science
